The March for the Alternative, March 2011 – the largest trade union demonstration in decades marches against the cuts.

Militant-led Liverpool city council inspired an army of support to battle prime minister Margaret Thatcher and the Tory government in 1983-1987.
The council, led by Militant Tendency supporters (now Socialist Party), refused to raise rents or rates to compensate for central government cuts, and demanded extra money, in order to build decent houses and other facilities. This film by Leslie Ann Barrett, shown at the Militant Rally 1985, captures a moment in that battle.

On Thursday 9 December 2010, while parliament debated the Con-Dem coalition government’s plan to treble university tuition fees, a fourth day of angry protest, known as Day X, took place across the country. 35,000 students protest outside parliament as fees debated.

The Socialism event is the annual congress of the Socialist Party. Socialism 2009 saw Bob Crow, general secretary of the RMT union, Brian Caton, general secretary of the POA, Matt Wrack, general secretary of the Firefighters Union. Peter Taaffe, Socialist Party general secretary and Joe Higgins, Irish Socialist Party MEP speak.

Youth Fight For Jobs demonstrated against the G20 meeting in London on 2 April 2009, marching through the poorest boroughs in London and then to the G20 meeting.
