Welcome to the online home of the Wrexham and North East Wales branch of the Socialist Party.
The Socialist Party campaigns for socialist change – a democratic society run for the needs of all and not the profits of a few. We also fight, in our day-to-day campaigning, for every possible improvement for working class people.
Locally and nationally the Socialist Party is currently engaged in fighting the ideologically-driven cuts to jobs, services and education which are being forced through by the coalition government, with the support of big business and the political establishment. Working class people are expected to pay for a crisis created not on shopfloors but on trading floors. We should not pay for their crisis.
We support workers in industrial disputes, fight against tuition fees, privatisation, for better pay, to stop council house sell-offs and for free education.
The Socialist Party is part of the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI), a democratic, socialist international organising in over 40 countries.
The Socialist Party is affiliated to the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC), a new electoral alliance which aims to provide a political alternative to working class voters at the ballot box.
In addition, we also play a key role in the trade union backed Youth Fight for Jobs (YFJ) and Youth Fight for Education (YFE) campaigns, and the student organisation Socialist Students, which actively campaign to improve the prospects of a generation of young people thrown on the scrap-heap by the crisis in capitalism. YFJ, YFE and Socialist Students have been at the forefront of the recent student protests and strikes, organising marches, walkouts, demos and occupations across the UK.
Wrexham Socialist Party is active within the trade union movement, the youth movement and the community. We actively campaign for socialism and for practical improvements for the working class, and against racism, fascism, and all forms of division. Working class people cannot afford to be divided by bigotry and scapegoating.
Wrexham Socialist Party participates in Wrexham Anti-Racist Network (WARN), Youth Fight for Jobs North Wales, the North Wales Shop Stewards Network, and our local anti-cuts group North Wales Against Cuts, along with local trade union branches, community groups and Wrexham Trades Council.
It is our belief that working class people must demonstrate a united front against cuts to public services, attacks on jobs, pay and conditions, and the continued agenda of privatisation.
It no longer matters significantly whether we have a Tory government, a Liberal government, or a Labour government. The Labour Party has long since abandoned any pretense of representing the workers’ movement, and has embraced Thatcherism and the “filthy rich”.
Plaid Cymru present a superficially left-wing social-democratic face to the people of Wales, and undoubtedly contains individuals with which socialists will always find common ground. Yet the reality is that Plaid Cymru, while in power in local authorities or in the so-called ‘One Wales’ Plaid Cymru/Labour coalition government, has forced through cuts and viciously attacked the working class with as much venom as New Labour and the Tories.
We see both Labour and Plaid Cymru making political capital from the vicious cuts programme of the hated ConDem government, yet we also see both Labour and Plaid, in government in Wales and in councils and local authorities, happily passing the cuts down onto working class people and blaming ‘the hand they have been dealt’. We believe, unequivocally, that every cut should be resisted. We can, and will, beat these cuts and beat this government.
The parties of the political establishment are virtually indistinguishable from one another, and all will continue to pursue the very same neo-liberal capitalism that has brought poverty to billions of working class people during the capitalist crisis.
Working people need a new political voice; a new workers’ party and a reinvigorated workers’ movement.
The capitalist class has caused this crisis, yet is determined that working class people should pay for it, through attacks on public services and massive job cuts in both the public and private sectors – yet the bankers are bailed out with billions of our money, whilst the self-serving capitalist politicians abuse their positions to line their own pockets!
Our narrative is simple. We should not pay for their crisis.
